Custom Engraving: Get the personal touch

Our new engraving service takes the ergonomic, attractive and intuitive family of TAP-5 switches to a new level of personalisation letting installers create custom control interfaces for every project.

Showcased for the first time at the recent EI Live! Show, the new service received a very positive response, offering a whole range of attractive ways to personalise these popular control interfaces so each client can have something that is unique to them, suits what they wish to control, in the way they wish to control it.

At Faradite, we want to provide products and services that our customers simply cannot get anywhere else, enabling them to deliver something personal and unique to the end-user.

The new engraving service is available on our TAP-5 range of switches, which already offer beautiful contemporary control points compatible with 24V home automation systems.

The TAP-5 delivers five points of interaction that can be configured to control a home’s lights, blinds, music and heating all from one place.

With the amount of functionality available from the TAP-5, labelling the outside buttons helps people remember exactly what action is triggered by each button.

Great for regular users who need a reminder, but also great for guests who will instantly know what function they are controlling just by looking at the switch.

Smart homes need to be ‘smart’ in lots of ways. Clear labelling and intuitive access to the functions people want is a really good place to start and avoids people being overwhelmed or put off by complex interfaces.

We are also really proud of the way the TAP-5 switches are designed; they are elegant and ergonomic, so we did not want the new engraving service to impact that.

The icons we have available really add to the look of the switch, as well as adding the extra customisation. So, the user gets the best of both worlds; something attractive that complements the look of the home but also adds that extra level of personalisation too.

As an engineering company, we like to be nimble in our approach and listen to what our customers have to say.

Many installers buying the TAP-5 switches noted it would be a good option to be able to label the different functions.

So, much like with our black Motion Sensor 360 (developed specifically for the home cinema market) after feedback from customers, the development of the service has come, partly from our own desire to innovate and improve, but has also been born from direct customer feedback.

The Practical Applications

The new service will allow installers to get the most from each project, depending on the needs of each customer.

Some examples might be creating different lighting scenes for dinner, relaxing, party or movie night, for a switch that controls a room with many lighting circuits.

For music fans, the switch could be labelled to control different functions such as skip, play, or volume up and down.

Specialised areas of control like garage doors could also be clearly labelled for ease of use and fast activation.

Other areas such as bedrooms could have really focused control options for blinds and other window treatments, a ‘whole house off’ button for when going to sleep, or indeed a ‘wake up’ function for first thing in the morning.

Custom Engraving: The details

 The on-line ordering process is really simple and easy to use.

Installers can choose from a large set of icons already created for the service or type in any custom text required.

Simply visit the Faradite webshop, select the TAP-5 product that you want, click the ‘customise’ button, then choose the icons or text for each corner of the switch.

Next, just add your choices to the basket and select the number you require.

There is a custom engraving order fee that is applied to the order total. This customisation fee is the same whether you are ordering a single custom engraved switch or 40 switches each with a different custom engraving. 

Following this you get a chance to ‘proof’ your order to check it is correct. Hit confirm and you are done – it could not be simpler.

Six weeks from the date of ordering, we will ship your fully customised switches ready for installation.

The engraving service is available on our Brushed Copper and Stainless Steel TAP-5 switches (not available on the Matt White).

Our TAP-5 switches fit UK backboxes, however like all other Faradite TAP switches, they are also available for EU boxes as well.
